Our Story

Luminous Era was founded by Nonkululeko Williams, born from a simple but powerful realisation: brown skin has always been extraordinary, and it deserves products that truly understand it.

What began in 2020 as a small business project, creating a basic face mask, quickly revealed a much larger gap. Skincare products, especially sun protection, were not speaking to us, made for us, or designed with our lived experiences in mind. For many of us, sunscreen was something we avoided, either because we were told we did not need it, or because it left an uncomfortable grey, ashy residue on our skin.

We knew there had to be a better way. So we built it.

Luminous Era is my way of honouring the women I come from and the brown skin we live in; with intentional formulations, real protection, honest care, a deep sense of community and a proud South African heart.
