SKINCARE 101: Understanding Your Skin with Luminous Era

Growth and Discovery

Do the words "skin routine" leave you feeling confused? They certainly did for me in my later teens! I wondered why I needed a specific way to clean my face, dismissing it as just another stressful attempt to sell cosmetic products that likely wouldn't work. Honestly, I just didn't get it, and none of my friends could tell me why it mattered. Luckily, my skin wasn't problematic then. But as I ventured into my twenties, a "new dawn" for my facial skin began, and my natural curiosity led me to understand the importance of a skin routine.

Today, we're diving into the delicate art of the skin cleansing ritual. Let's start from the basics and build our way up. Ready? I know I am! Buckle up (in a good way, of course!).

We've previously explored general skin care tips, but true skin love flourishes in the details. Each step, practiced consistently, contributes to healthy, glowing skin. What we allow, and don't allow, to sink into our skin makes all the difference. So, let's talk about a specific skin love language: cleansing.

Cleansing, the Luminous Era Way

At Luminous Era, cleansing means more than just washing away surface impurities. It's about deep removal, targeting your skin's surface and pores with focus and care. We're talking about making sure no sweat, dirt, germs, or makeup get left behind, while simultaneously nourishing the deeper layers of your skin for that healthy glow.

For those of us who don't wear makeup, our cleansing ritual is straightforward. Our main "not-so-best friends" to tackle are sweat, dirt, dead skin cells, and germs. You won't need an endless list of products, just what I call the skincare essentials:

  1. Face cleanser or a mild soap specifically for your facial skin type.
  2. Exfoliator.
  3. Toner.
  4. Non-comedogenic moisturizer and your Luminous Era SPF 30 sunscreen for ultimate protection and glow!🤎

Remember to ensure all products are complementary to your specific skin type.

Think of cleansing as a home spa treatment for your skin. Always start with warm water to help open up your pores. This is a crucial step! Apply your face cleanser or create a lather with your soap in your hands until foamy, then gently rub it onto your face in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to ensure all cleanser is removed. Using a soap with moisturizing cream can prevent your skin from feeling dry.

Exfoliation is the delicate process of helping your skin shed dead cells and removing accumulated dirt and germs. This should be done once or twice a week, with at least five days between sessions. Excessive or incorrect exfoliation can dry out your skin and damage its protective barrier. Choose an exfoliation product suitable for your skin type and use it as advised by a pharmacist or dermatologist to remove impurities and sweep away dead skin cells that shed during nighttime skin rejuvenation.

After rinsing and gently patting your skin dry, apply your toner. This step hydrates your skin, helps balance its pH, adds an extra layer of cleanliness, and promotes overall skin health.

Next, apply your moisturizer or oil, followed by my highly recommended Luminous Era SPF 30 sunscreen. This provides essential sun protection and contributes to your skin's overall health and radiance.

And voilà! You've successfully completed your skin cleansing love language!

P.S.: Make sure to use hydrating face moisturizers and oils after exfoliation, as this process can be demanding on your skin. Keep it well-hydrated!

For the Makeup Lovers

For those who wear makeup, your cleansing process follows the same steps, but with a crucial preliminary task. Makeup sits on your skin for hours, potentially clogging pores and accumulating sweat, dirt, and germs. This requires gentle yet thorough removal without compromising your skin's health, beauty, or glow.

To remove makeup, use micellar water. It's excellent for all skin types and effective even on stubborn makeup, causing minimal dryness or irritation. Simply apply it to a clean cotton pad and wipe your makeup off, changing pads as needed. After this, proceed with your regular cleansing routine before your bath.

Embrace Your Radiance

The feeling of clean, even-toned skin is truly magical, and with the protection of a sunscreen that promotes even tone, hydration, and UVA/UVB protection without leaving residue, you have your secret weapon for feeling beautiful in your already beautiful skin.

Remember, skincare is a gradual but beautiful process that thrives on consistency. For your skin to illuminate, always add a dash of patience, consistency, and a whole lot of love. Anything promising overnight results is a red flag. And the only flag we're here for is the melanin one!

Until next time, I love all your shades! Don't forget to exfoliate and change your pillowcases weekly.

-Still Sarah, a beautiful girl learning with you.💐
